Executive Summary :

sea buckthorn, a natural resource in five Himalayan states, is primarily found in Ladakh, with over 70% of the total area under its influence. However, the annual berry harvest is less than 5% of the total available resources, and the harvest is limited to 500 MT. R. imbricata, a cold-tolerant, medicinal plant with adaptogenic properties, is commonly found in the Indus and Leh valley of the Indian trans-Himalaya. Despite its pharmacological potential in polar extracts, the active principle remains a mystery. The study aims to identify, extract, and characterize bio-active components from sea buckthorn and R. imbricata, microencapsulate these bioactives for targeted drug delivery, and develop immune-boosting health foods. The study will cover gaps in extending the shelf life of sea buckthorn and golden root, identifying and extracting bioactive compounds for chronic diseases, encapsulating these compounds, and ensuring packaging and storage stability.
