DST-ICTP Ramanujan Prize in Mathematics
The Ramanujan Prize for young mathematicians from developing countries has been awarded annually since 2005. It was originally instituted by ICTP, the Niels Henrik Abel Memorial Fund, and IMU. The participation of the Abel Fund ended in 2012. DST, Govt. of India has agreed to fund the Prize for a 5 year period, starting with the 2014 Prize. The Prize is awarded annually to a researcher from a developing country who is less than 45 years of age and who has conducted outstanding research in a developing country in any branch of Mathematical Sciences.
Breakthrough Prize
The Breakthrough Prizes honour immensely important, primarily recent, achievements in the categories of Fundamental Physics, Life Sciences and Mathematics. Committees of previous laureates choose the winners from candidates nominated in a process that?s online and open to the public. Laureates receive US$ 3 million each in prize money. They attend a televised award ceremony designed to celebrate their achievements and inspire the next generation of scientists. As part of the ceremony schedule, they also engage in a program of lectures and discussions.
Abel Prize
The Abel Prize was established by the Norwegian government in 2002 on the occasion of the 200th birth anniversary of Niels Henrik Abel. The Abel Prize recognizes contributions to the field of mathematics that are of extraordinary depth and influence. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters awards the Abel Prize based on recommendation from the Abel committee. The prize carries a cash award of 6 million NOK.
